RUSSELL WATSON'S SIX TRACK IPOD MIXIn The City by The Jam
In my opinion, this is Paul Weller at his best. It’s just the
sound of an electric, on-fire, angry young man and it’s one that
epitomised the era.
Rock Your Body by The Black Eyed PeasI’m
probably too old to do this but I listen to this track in the gym. It’s
great to train to. It’s one of those songs that wakes your body up.
It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World by James BrownJames
Brown is the godfather of soul and the singular finest soul singer of
all time. I first heard this record in my teens and it very much reminds
me of my mod years in the late 1970s, early 1980s.
My Generation by The WhoThis
takes me back to the 1960s. It was a period when The Who were
astonishingly brilliant. I thought Keith Moon was the finest drummer to
walk the planet. He generated an astronomical power behind that kit.
Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro MascagniThis
is a beautiful, very famous piece from the opera. It was used in Raging
Bull. It’s was one of my grandmother’s favourites. On my new album, we
put words to the music.
Let There Be Love by OasisI
love putting this on when I’m in the car, rolling down the windows and
sharing it with the world. When I’m feeling rubbish, this gives me a

RUSSELL'S Q & A round 3
Russell Fan Q&A: Round Three
by Russell Watson on Tuesday, 05 October 2010 at 15:07
In the third and final part of our fan Q&A with Russell we talk tattoos, Jack Duckworth, and Russell's brand new album 'La Voce.
Q: What is your favourite track on your new album La Voce and why? (Eunice Pickles)
A: That's a difficult one, Eunice. I really, really like the adaptation of Dusty Springfield's song, 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me', it's a great builder. But I also like the Godfather theme, I think that's come out very, very strongly. It's big and is a great vocal showcase.
Q: Would you like to appear in Coronation Street, if so which character would you play? (Sophie Williams)
A: It has to be Jack Duckworth, Sophie, haha! I would be able to moan a lot. His character is just, you know, a grumpy old man, but really quite comedic. It's a great character. There never seems to be anything catastrophic going on in his life which I quite like. One of my dreams is to have a cameo appearance in Coronation Street. I'd love that! I don't really get much time to watch soaps anymore.
Q: Do you have to be pretty strict and set aside time each and every day to practice your vocals, even when you are holiday? (Victoria Mason)
A: Hi Victoria. I'm supposed to, but I've got to be honest, I don't. This is such an intense period, when I get an opportunity to rest, I like to rest. There isn't much time that goes by when I'm not singing. I'm always singing.
Q: It is well documented that you don't like salmon, which is a favourite of mine, so if you were coming to dinner, what would I cook for you? (Sandra Dalziel)
A: Hi Sandra. I'm genuinely allergic to Salmon. Beetroot is also utterly disgusting. So nothing with either of those two! If I was cooking, I'd cook something like steak, potato gratin, fresh green beans, fresh garden peas and a bit of pepper sauce on the side. And a nice bottle of Bolanger rose.
Q: Would you get a tattoo done? where would you have it? and what would it be off? (Sarah Baron)
A: Hi Sarah. No, I just don't like them. My 15 year old recently mentioned tattoos and I just gave her a look that only a father could give a daughter when she says she wants a tattoo. If she got one I'd go mad! I'm not a strict Dad but they know the guidelines. I'm not heavy duty with them but they know when not to mess with me, like with tattoos and stuff like that. She recently asked me about a belly button piercing and it was just a flat 'no!'

RUSSELL'S Q & A Round 2
29-09-2010
We spoke to Russell the other day and, as promised, we managed to squeeze in as many of your fan questions as possible.
Here's the second instalment from our Russell Watson fan Q&A...
Q: Do you have any ambitions outside the music industry that you would like to fulfil? (from Sarah Phillips)
A: Hi Sarah. To be honest, I want more than anything else to just stay healthy and happy. That’s predominantly it. Outside of my career? No, not really. Just healthy and happy, my family too!
Q: Who would you most like to duet/collaborate with on a song, and are there any collaborations on your new album, 'La Voce'? (from Kelly Dean)
A: Hi Kelly. Oh crikey! Sadly most of the people I have respect for, artistically, aren’t here anymore - the great Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra. Maybe Whitney in her hay day, that would take some beating. Or even Mariah Carey, she’s got some voice on her. There are no collaborations on the record. Specifically, I was really conscious on this album of making sure it was all about the voice and the music above anything else. We talked about duets on several occasions, but in the end we decided it would dilute what we had.
Q: Where would you go and what would you do on a date? (from Fenella Loveridge)
A: Haha, good question Fenella… I would take ‘em to Old Trafford to watch Man United!
Q: If you had to pick just one favourite song ever - which would it be and why? (from Tracy Bate)
A: Hi Tracy. Nessun Dorma. It’s kind of pre-curser to my career and has significance for so many reasons.
Q: Who do you listen to and why, and how do you choose the songs on your albums? (from Sandra Dalziel)
A: Hello Sandra. It depends what I’m doing. At the moment I’m really into the Black Eyed Peas. I really like their new record, Boom Boom Pow, it’s a brilliant record.
Stay tuned for Round Three of Russell's fan Q&A coming soon!
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
In the second part of our fan Q&A with Russell, we talk music, tennis and the strangest gift he's ever been given by a fan!
Q: What do you do with all the presents you get given by your fans? (Barbara Bone)
A:
Hi Barbara. A lot of them I drink… they send me a lot of alcohol. I get
Champagne and Chardonnay. I get sent a lot of cufflinks and ties, which
I wear. I’ve got to be honest, I have had some very odd gifts from fans
and I’m not sure what to do with them. The oddest gift I was ever given
was a silver Elvis monster outfit. Weird, I’m not sure why. Somebody
once sent me some bells, no note, it just said "I think you might like these".
Q: What do you get up to when you have a day off? (Hayley Manning)
A:
Hello Hayley. I like tennis. I think I’m quite good, yeah. I’m
certainly getting stronger. My fitness has improved a lot since losing
the weight I put on two years ago through chemo. I move around the
court better. Now as a result I feel a lot better. My biggest form of
escapism is my Playstation 3. If anyone wants to buy me any of the
latest PS3 games, mainly sport or shooting games, it would be gladly
appreciated… haha!
Q: Would you ever consider recording a Christmas CD? (Sarah Baron)
A:
I would never say I wouldn’t consider recording one, Sarah, but at this
stage in my career, no. I’m heavily into the artistic process that
takes place when making a record of the type that I’ve made recently. A
Christmas record for me at this stage would not be so artistically
rewarding. That’s not to say that later in my career I wouldn’t
consider it.
Q: If you had a time machine and could go back in
time and could see a singer or musician perform who would it be and
why? (Annette Fice)
A: Hey Annette. I think I’d like to go back
in time and see Elvis do the concert he did in 67, the comeback tour.
I’d have liked to see that. I appreciate the legend that he was in his
hay day. It’s astonishing.
Q:What do you have playing on your i-pod? (Mavis Haddleton)
A:
Well Mavis, It’s 32GB so there’s so much on there. I like my soul
music, James Brown, Freddie Jackson, Alexander O’Neill, really like the
Alexander O’Neill stuff. I’ve got piles of classical stuff on there and
a bit of rock too. Such an eclectic mix, everything from the Sex
Pistols to Chopin.

THE RETURN OF RUSSELL WATSON
Submitted by Pip on Thu, 09/02/2010 - 17:25
Thevoice of a generation is back, alive and most certainly
kicking with a new album on a new label.
The tenor who practically invented the classical crossover genre is ready to
stun the world again with a La Voce, out November 29th on Epic
Records.
"Russell is the finest British Tenor of his generation and improves with
every performance I hear, we are honoured to have him on our label" – Nick
Raphael, Managing Director Epic Records
Recorded in June 2010 with the Roma Sinfonietta - Ennio Morricone’s orchestra
of choice – and produced by Mike Hedges, Russell Watson’s voice has never
sounded better.
Stronger, more driven and powerful, his renditions of Pino Donaggio’s
Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te), Mario Lanza’s Arrivederci
Roma and Parla Piu Piano (the theme from The
Godfather) are as impressive as you’d expect from a man singing with,
literally, a new lease of life after overcoming two life-threatening brain
tumours.
In 2008, when the Salford born tenor finished radiotherapy for the pituitary
tumor that saw him undergoing emergency surgery, he decided to embark on a
return to music.
He soon found that his treatment had given him not just a fresh outlook on
the world, but a whole new, deeper, richer voice. “The tumour could have been
growing for 10-15 years in my nasal cavity, so when I had it cut out I went from
a V8 to a V12!”
Set for release a decade after his No. 1, Classical Brit bagging 2000 debut
The Voice, La Voce is Watson’s ninth – and
most personal – album.
“I’ve truly given my heart and soul to this record,” he says, and you can
most certainly hear it.
La Voce is set to be one of the defining albums of 2010.
From the Ronan Hardiman web site..
A bit about Russell's song La Fiamma Sacra (The Sacred Flame) from the Amore Musica CD.
09/11/2004 :: Hardiman tops the charts again.
2004 has so far been an extremely busy year for Ronan, working on a number of high profile projects, the first of which, a collaboration with UK Classical/Crossover phenomenon Russell Watson on his new album 'Amore Musica' has just been released. The album has entered the UK Classical Charts at No.1 and the main UK pop chart at No.10. Ronan composed the song 'La Fiamma Sacra' (The Sacred Flame) with lyrics by legendary lyricist Franks Musker (Zucchero,Queen,Air supply). 'La Fiamma Sacra' was produced by Simon Franglen (producer of 'My Heart Will Go On" ,by Celine Dion) and is a stand out track on the album-a dynamic powerful piece which tells the story of Watsons own rise to fame and fortune from humble beginnings. 'Amore Musica' with 'La Fiamma sacra' look set to outsrip the astonishing success of Watsons previous three albums which have sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

U.K. tenor Russell Watson has signed a long-term world wide record deal with Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment U.K.
Under the terms of the deal, the classical crossover artist will start to record his first album for Epic early in 2010 for release later in the year.
Prior to signing with Epic, Watson was signed to Universal Music Group-owned Decca Records. According to a spokesperson for Sony Music Entertainment U.K., he has sold over three million albums in the United Kingdom and close to seven million worldwide during his career.
Commenting on the deal, Sony Music U.K. & Ireland chairman Ged Doherty said in a statement:
"Russell is one of the biggest artists in the world, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Sony family."

A regular on the northern club circuit, Watson discovered he could sing Nessun Dorma, and the rest is history. His sales, however, are modest

Sept 14thRUSSELL WINS REAR OF THE YEAR 2009.
Former Strictly Come Dancing runner-up Rachel Stevens and tenor Russell Watson have been named the winners of 2009’s Rear of the Year.
The pair lifted the cheeky title after receiving a huge number of votes to win this year's Rear of the Year Award, which is now in its 27th year.
This isn’t the first time former S Club 7 singer Rachel has won awards based on her looks – she has previously been voted the world’s second sexiest women in an FHM magazine poll.
And she seemed please to lift her latest title saying: "I'm very flattered and I'm now going to insure each cheek for a considerable sum of money."
Russell – whose health has been under scrutiny in recent years after suffering problems with a brain tumour – was also happy to claim the accolade.
He said: "For the past 10 years it's always been about The Voice but, for the first time, I'm delighted to say it's about my rear. Winning the Rear of the Year Award is better than getting an OBE."
Award organiser, Tony Edwards, said: "They've both been high on the list of contenders for the past few years but this year broke through with amazing support.

Aug 2008
The youthful duo beat established favourites such as Lesley Garrett, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo to be named The Nation's Favourite classical singers in a joint poll run by Classic FM and Radio Times.
Nigel Kennedy, the violinist, was also named best soloist musician in the poll.
Between them Jenkins, Watson and Kennedy have sold millions of classical albums worldwide.
Both Jenkins and Kennedy hold world records; Jenkins for being the fastest-selling soprano of all time and Kennedy for the biggest-selling classical record of all time.
Myleene Klass, who presents on Classic FM, described Welsh mezzo-soprano Jenkins, 28, who won the female singer category, as "the nation's darling".
She said: "This was a category full to the brim of top-notch singers and any one of them could have claimed the top spot. Katherine though, is the nation's darling; she has introduced thousands of new people to classical music and brought more than a touch of glamour to the genre."
Fellow DJ James Crick said of Watson: "The nation has spoken and this is proof – if proof was needed – that Russell Watson is indeed the People's Tenor. He has brought classical music out of the concert hall and into football stadiums and pop venues, introducing classical music to new audiences right across the UK."
Watson, 41, who first shot to fame in 1999 after performing Nessun Dorma at Old Trafford, was named ahead of Welsh opera star Bryn Terfel, who was placed second.
More than 30,000 people took part in the poll, that also saw Mozart named favourite composer, Star Wars crowned favourite soundtrack and Carmen's Bizet awarded favourite opera.
Darren Henley, managing director of Classic FM, said: "Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson and Nigel Kennedy have brought classical music to the masses, with album sales that rival their pop counterparts."
Jenkins, 28, gave back-to-back performances this Bank Holiday, first at the Kenwood Proms on Saturday and then at Sunday's London Olympics party.
The former school teacher signed the largest record deal in the history of British classical music back in 2004 with an undisclosed seven-figure deal.
She has since become the fastest-selling female classical singer since Maria Callas and is the only artist to have simultaneously held the top three spots in the classical chart - which she did with three of her albums in 2005.
Former factory worker Watson, 41, learnt his trade in the working men's clubs before his career took after after he sang at the Manchester United ground.
The singer, known as "The Voice", had a brain tumour removed in 2006 and had to have more emergency surgery last year after it was found to have grown back. After taking time out for radiotherapy treatment, he returned to touring earlier this summer and has also been a judge on the BBC show Last Choir Standing.

Pride Of Manchester award for
Mancunian of 2007
Despite nine personalities receiving nominations, the award for the Mancunian (or adopted Mancunian) of 2007 was almost a foregone conclusion. An astonishing 61% of the 1,935 members who submitted votes recognised Tony Wilson's contribution, before his untimely death in August, in making Manchester the city that it is today.
2) Russell Watson (275 votes received)
Another proud Mancunian who championed the city around the world, somehow finding time to do lots of charity work in between recording two excellent albums and suffering two brain tumours, Russell Watson had an incredible 2007. After suffering a brain tumour in late 2006, his album, 'That's Life' was delayed until March, reaching UK.4. After touring the UK, in May he sang the national anthem at Wembley ahead of his beloved Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup Final. He performed for the first time with the Halle at the PFA's Centenary charity concert and appeared at many other charity events throughout the year. In October, during the recording of his next album, 'Outside In', Russell suffered another brain tumour and was rushed into Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. He was lucky to survive and is on a long road to recovery. 'Outside In' charted at UK no.14 in November.
One member summed it up best when submitting her vote for Anthony Wilson; "I wish there could be two Mancunian's Of The Year Awards as both Tony and Russell are deserving of such praise. Both are such proud Mancunian's they'd be equally as honoured to receive the title as any other award they may have won in their past".
